“Bottoms Up!” 5 Natural Drinks that will Make you Sleepy

November 27, 2014

Whenever we toss and turn and fail to fall asleep, we sometimes jump out of bed mattress, head to the kitchen, refresh ourselves with a glass of water, and continue our battle with insomnia. However, even if we manage to get into a comfortable sleeping position, our brain refuses to shut down and rest.

This is when you should upgrade your beverage when you take that late night trip to the kitchen. We’re not talking about drowning yourself in alcohol until you pass out.  What you need are those beverages made from natural ingredients like fruits, vegetables and herbs. Not only are they healthy, but they’re delicious as well! If you have a full stock of ingredients but have no idea on which would go best with this and that, try out some of the quick recipes listed below:

Cherry & Vanilla Juice

  • A dozen cherries
  • Honey or sugar
  • Water
  • Vanilla syrup

  • Place the cherries in a bowl and run it with cold water. After straining, slice the cherries vertically and remove the pit using a butter knife. Place the cleaned and fruits in the blender.
  • Add the desired amount of sugar or honey together with the vanilla syrup. Commence the blending!
  • Add the necessary amount of water and continue blending until consistent to your taste.

Chamomile and Lavender Tea

  • 1 teaspoon chamomile buds
  • 1 teaspoon lavender buds
  • 8 ounces of water
  • Milk or honey

  • Boil the water.
  • Place the chamomile and lavender buds in a tea strainer.
  • Pour hot water in the cup with the tea strainer.
  • Allow the herbs to sit for about 10 to 15 minutes for stronger flavor.
  • Add milk or honey for extra flavor.

Note: In the absence of a tea strainer, you can simply place the herbs in a bowl and pour the hot water on it. Then after 10 to-15 minutes, pour the tea into a cup, using your standard kitchen strainer to remove the buds.

Lemon Balm Tea

  • 3 or 4 fresh dried lemon balm leaves
  • 1 pint of water

  • Boil the water.
  • Place the lemon balm leaves in a tea strainer
  • Pour hot water in the cup with tea strainer.
  • Allow the herbs to sit for about 10 to 15 minutes for stronger flavor.

Note: If you haven’t already noticed, the procedure is basically the same as that for the chamomile and lavender tea. And since the recipe is so undeniably easy, be sure to shop for the ingredients required for both drinks!

Pure Coconut Water

Though believed to be a natural energy drink, coconut juice can also hasten your trip to Dreamland. It’s rich in potassium and magnesium, which are minerals that aid in relaxing muscles. Also loaded with vitamin B, pure coconut water helps alleviate stress levels.

Glass of Milk

When it comes to getting ready for bed, one glass of milk before bedtime almost always does the trick! Both fresh and powdered will do as long as it’s warm enough. You can even spike it with honey for extra flavor and effectiveness.

Aside from the fact that these beverages are certified to draw you closer to your precious bed, they’re also a healthier and tastier alternative for unhealthy sleeping pills and factory-processed drinks that don’t always work. So even before insomnia gets a chance to ruin your night, stir up these drinks and assure yourself a nice, long sleep.
