The awesome, majestic and serene beauty of Mount Mayon has once again recur its rumbling activitywhich PHIVOLCSdetected since September 2014.
Thus,on the second week of September,families residing at the six kilometer permanent danger zones (PDZ) and those at the 7th and 8th PDZ’s has been forced to evacuate at selected elementary and high schoolswithin the province.This, to ensure the zero casualty advocacy of the Albay Government whenever natural calamaties like this strikes the province.
These families, however, has shown despondency against this act of the Provincial Government as they are worried that their wellness in the evacuation sites will not be instilled.
The news regarding a little boy who died of pneumonia and cases of cough and colds due to lack of proper beddings for children in the evacuation sites brought morealarm for them. And to help mitigate on evacuees’ problems on wellness, URATEX Team headed by yours truly, who happened to be an Albayano also, requested mattresses to be distributed to selected evacuation center. Ms. Peachy Cheng- Medina, RGC Int’l Corp. managing director has readily approved the request and immediately sent 500 pcs of mattresses to Uratex Bicol Branch, In each of these mattress was a uratex t-shirt.
To facilitate and to determine whom to be the recipients, the Uratex team consulted personnel from different schools. Eventually, decided to give the mattress- reliefs to the evacuees from Matnog, Daraga and Alcala, Daraga. These evacuees who were temporarily keep safe at Anislag Elementary School and Anislag National High School received the mattresses on October 18 and 24, 2014 respectively.
During the distribution evacuees expressed their delights and appreciation as they unstoppably said ‘salamat tabi nin maray sainyo sa pagpili samun na magin recipients sading mga foam. Dakulong tabang yadi lalo na sa samun na mga aki asin mga magurang na pagiriba’-(Thank you very much to Uratex for choosing us to be the recipients of these foams. This will be of big help for the wellness of our small children and senior citizens.)
